UNDER THE BUS SYNDROME

1 Corinthians 10:33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit but the profit of many that they may be saved.

The phrase (thrown under the bus) is such a commonly used statement today that very few people would have not heard it used. For those of you who have not heard the statement it means to place someone in line to take responsibility for your wrong doings. During this writing let us explore this phrase a bit deeper, so for this writing (thrown under the bus) will be referred to as under the bus syndrome. Why referred to as under the bus syndrome? Simply, the over use of the phrase and the pain it causes. How many of us have thrown someone under the bus or for that fact thrown yourself under the bus? Well the guess would be almost everyone has done at least one aspect of the syndrome.

What is more important than have you thrown someone under the bus, but how to stop the epidemic? We can all look to Jesus as he hung upon the cross and his blood atoned for our sins. First, remember for all believers our sins are forgiven by the blood of Jesus. Second, follow the example of Jesus, stand up, and be counted. Remember Jesus did not have to do what he did because he was free of sin. Thirdly, as believers we must stand in the belief that all things work for those who love God. The under bus syndrome epidemic will reduce in number if believers improve their lives in the areas mentioned above.

The other aspect of under the bus syndrome is people who throw themselves under the bus.  There are various reasons why people do such things. Instead of looking at the reason why this occurs so frequently, let us examine how to improve the problem. There is truth to the thought that people throw themselves under the bus to protect others.  No one is saying that people should not show mercy and grace to others by taking the anguish for someone else. The point here many people throw themselves under the bus to covers the problem, but do not fix the problem. Many consistently throw themselves under the bus because they are attempting to hide bigger issues or simply lack confidence to face the true problem.

For all who have the under the bus syndrome, take time to evaluate yourself and ask God to change you to no longer participate in such actions. This is not an easy fix because for so many these actions are embedded deeply into a person. So pray, have faith, have patience, and look to people you trust for assistance in this matter. To all challenge yourself to make the necessary changes to help reduce the epidemic level of under the bus syndrome.

Grace and Peace
