ONE CAN MAKE AN IMPACT

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14

The world today seems to be at such a bleak point in time.  We have people saying there is no God or God is not all-powerful.  Today we see kids living on the streets with no place to call home. We hear of women, and young girls being sold as sex salves. In the face of our finical crises people have become afraid and very pessimistic about the future. I can continue on about the darkness of our world, but I would rather look at how we can bring light in to the dark places of this world. Jesus spoke as said we are to be the light unto the world.  How many of us who call ourselves Christians really understand what we intended to do while on this early. In order for us to be a light unto this world we must have Jesus Christ living in us who is our guide. Once we have accomplished the first step of Jesus living in us we must cultivate our relationship with Jesus in order that we remain in his presence consistently.  Now we must move into the realm of bringing light into the darkest parts of the world.  You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy.  But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!  In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.  If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much.  If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that.  But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matthew 43:48

Once we begin to understand the importance of how we need to treat others regardless of if they have wronged us or believe in something we would never believe.  So here are some ways we can go into the darkest parts of the world. What about taking time to help that person who is having car problems on the side of the road?  The smallest thing we think that really does not help someone it is laying the foundation for something.  What are giving someone a small cup of water that looks thirsty?  What about holding the door open for someone who has his or her hands full? Think about the person who you know is suffering from sadness take time to give them a shoulder to cry on.

These are just a few ideas of how we can be light unto the world, but I say to you if you are really a Christian the way you live your life will cause people to wonder and ask what makes you different. The moment someone ask you be excited to share the why you are different and what is Jesus has done in your life to make you stand along.  To finish I was listening to a minster who I like very much on my iPod while on a run and I want to share one of his stories to with you. There was this group of people running through the airport attempting not to miss their flight. In their path was a young girl with a take set up selling apples.  As the group went flashing past the table several of the people hit the table knocking over the table filled with apples.  No even broke stride, but all of a sudden one person in the group looked but to see what damage had been caused.  He stopped and began to return back to help the young girl as he did this he yelled out to group to continue on and he would catch the next flight.  He called his wife and told her he would miss him flight home.  While moving back toward the girl he watched as she scurried around the floor searching for the apples without anyone pausing to assist her.  As he reached the young girl he notice she was blind and tears rolled down her face.  This man lowered himself to the floor and assisted the young girl.  Once they found all the apples and arranged them back on the table he offered the girl $40 and said he hoped he did not ruin her day.  The man turned and walked away from the girl and he moved away the girl in a soft voice she said are you Jesus? We all know we are not Jesus, but we should always attempt to let people see Jesus through us. So whenever you think you can’t make an impact think about the small things that can make a difference in someone life so the light of Jesus can shine brightly.

Grace and Peace to you,
